    And the verdict is….
    Gluten Free!
    This is an interesting one for a couple of reasons. Yes, A&W has caramel color. However, most caramel coloring (in the US anyway) is from non-wheat sources – either corn syrups or cane sugars.
    The other interesting thing about this one is that many people report that root beer in general gives them “celiac” like symptoms – but not as a result of gluten. Root beer in general just does not agree with many people.
    Beware of brand to brand issues though – there are plenty of root beers that do in fact contain gluten, but A&W does not!

    I know! Can you imagine life without A&W? I need to do a little research on the gluten free status of Dr. Brown’s Root Beer and Cream Soda. Anyone know?
