You have celiac. Me too. That bites. So get over it, one bite at a time.

Having been diagnosed myself about six years ago, I feel pretty qualified to offer up this diagnostic checklist: You fall asleep at your desk more than three times per day and now have bruises on your forehead from hitting the keyboard. The letter “H” is permanently stamped into your right eyebrow. You eat like there’s [...]

Sometimes you just have to respect your gut instinct for important decisions. (Pun intended) After about six months of dealing with all of the items on the surefire Celiac diagnostic checklist, I decided to pay a visit to the local gastroenterologist. That was fun. I’ll spare the details, but let’s just say that the local [...]

Question (from pretty much everyone): “Are you allergic to bread?” Me (over and over again): “No, but I am allergic to being asked if I’m allergic to bread.” Next Question: “So can you eat donuts?” Me: “Can you eat rocks?” Celiac Disease is an autoimmune condition, not an allergy. There’s a big difference between the [...]

The concept of “autoimmune” is pretty simple. Basically, your auto-antibodies have a terminal crack habit. Either that, or they have spent too many days watching re-runs of Gilligans Island and have lost all short term memory as a result.

Glutino English Muffins are one of my long term favorites. I always have some in the freezer. The only thing about them is that they don't really … [Read More...]
After an 18 month adventure through the catacombs of the medical system, I was formally diagnosed with Celiac Disease. The bright side of that journey is that I know 3,712 nasty and horrible conditions that I do NOT have. [Read More …]

I thought I knew the answer to this, but now you have me doubting myself. Prego sauce is something I use fairly often. I looked at the ingredients and there wasn’t anything that gave me pause, but then I noticed the Campbell’s manufacturer. I stay away from their soups simply because they aren’t clearly marked. My vote is Gluten-Free, it’s never made me sick.
yes, it is GF.
I guess yes. But I typically stay away from it, just for the incredibly high salt content!
I am so excited I’m going to try this and see if I can eat it! I have made all sauces from scratch for years but wish I had one on hand for a quick meal! THANKS
OK, so this one was a little bit of a trick question.
According to Clan Thompson, a great resource for current status of gluten free foods, the following Prego sauces ARE gluten free:
In the Classic line:
Fresh Mushroom Sauce
Organic Mushroom Sauce
Organic Tomato Basil Sauce
Traditional Sauce
Three Cheese Sauce
In the Heart Smart Sauce line:
Heart Smart Onion & Garlic
Heart Smart Ricotta Parmesan
Heart Smart Mushroom
Heart Smart Traditional
The reason that it was a bit of a trick question is that last December there was some confusion in statements issued by the company. That type of situation is a great reason to subscribe to Clan Thompson’s Gluten Free newsletter and database products. I’ve been using them for over year and they are exceptionally handy!

Enjoy the Prego!
I haven’t had the courage to use just any pasta sauce. I did find Bove’s Marinara sauce…all natural..with large letters on the label “Gluten Free”. With peace of mind I pay a greater price…but was sure I would not get sick. It sure is nice to know that Prego is safe and less expensive. Bove’s was found in with all the other spaghetti sauces in the market and not in the GF area.
Thanks for the tip on Bove’s, I will have to try it out!
